What is a compromised skin barrier, and how does it affect reactions?Updated 2 months ago
A compromised skin barrier means the skin’s protective layer is under stress and less able to regulate moisture and tolerance.
When the barrier is compromised:
Skin may react later, not immediately
Products previously tolerated (including ones used in Trial Packs) may suddenly feel uncomfortable
Sensations like heat, tightness, redness, flaking, or breakouts can appear hours after application
This delayed timing often points to skin condition, not the skincare itself.
Common contributing factors include:
Cold weather, wind, indoor heating
Stress, illness, fatigue
Hormonal changes
Over-cleansing or over-layering products
